NSS 2013

Eeeeek! NSS opens in just a few short hours. I am so excited about the launch of several new products. Our new collections include Letter Writing Kits in six distinct designs, Monogram note cards that are printed on plush double-thick paper and edge painted in mint green, and our Hidden Messages card line (a snarky collection with a blind deboss). Hope to see you there!

Paper Camp in LA

This week I am lucky to be in Los Angeles, where apparently, there are blue skies every day. I'd say this is a two-thousand percent increase from Rochester. It's so nice to be here in February, which is always the hardest month for me in the north east. And why am I here? For Paper Camp!

Along with several other incredibly talented women, I'm speaking at Tradeshow Bootcamp's conference for stationers who are thinking about exhibiting at a tradeshow. I am blown away by how incredibly detailed and perfectly organized this has been thanks to organizer Katie Hunt. The goodie bags I helped fill yesterday are off the hook! I can't wait to meet the participants in this morning. If you want to follow the conference remotely, look for #papercamp on social media. I'll be updating my Instragram account regularly this week!

The New York Gift show was great! So happy to have split the booth with Kathryn (Blackbird Letterpress) and to have met so many really wonderful new retailers. Thanks to everyone who sent well wishes while we were there!

The only snag during the entire event was that our crate wasn't delivered until nine hours after the show ended. Which meant nine hours of waiting to pack it up because there was no way I could come back the next day before my flight back to Rochester. Now that we know to expect a delay, I won't be worried about it next time. Now we have to get these orders packaged!

ps- our new pinstripe cards were a hit and will be added to the shop this week :)

NYIGF 2013

We are in the midst of preparing for our first trade show of the year, the New York gift fair. This time around we're going to be sharing a booth with Blackbird Letterpress. Kathryn and I split a booth last year at the Atalanta gift show and it was great. I'm looking forward to this show and the chance to see my fellow stationery friends. Cross your fingers for good weather and health. You may remember that two years ago I got the flu the day I was scheduled to leave for this show. Lesson learned, I got my flu shot yesterday! Hope to see some of you at the show!

Jake and I stared the new year at a yoga retreat in the Berkshire Mountains in Massachusetts. After a gluttonous holiday season it felt so right to be eating healthy (and delicious) meals and practicing yoga. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect snowy setting and it was the best way I can think to end one year and begin a new one.

So, after all of the yoga and healthy eating, we're attempting to bring that into our lives a bit more. We joined a program at our yoga studio to reclaim our diets (basically, eat healthy and make time for yoga). Thankfully, we have an incredible public market that is open year round! Yep, even in the snow we can meet with our favorite vendors.

I'm not one to make sweeping resolutions but, aside from trying to get healthier, we are also trying to get organized. We've cleaned the studio, rearranged our presses, and started to make changes to our work-flow. I'm so excited about this! It's already making us more productive. No more wondering where the scissors are or why we can't find a plate we need to print. Things now have a home. Hallelujah!

We have decided to start a monthly night of fun printing. We don't often get the chance to play in our studio - isn't that part of the reason to have a studio? This month we made potato prints based on a monster theme. It was so much fun and felt great to just mess around and not worry about everything turning our perfect. I'm glad we'll be making this a monthly event.

Since last time...

Wrapping some presents. Love this paper we just got in the shop.

Jake is picking our tree by smell. For the past five or six years we've had a tradition where we get breakfast with our friends Sara and Ben (and now their son Rowan) and then pick out a tree together. We still need to decorate ours, although it's been over a week since we got the tree. Hopefully we'll have time this weekend.

Cassie and Pancake Sue on the studio couch. We just rearranged the space last weekend. In the next few weeks we'll move some presses around. It always take so much time to find the perfect set up, but it's really starting to come together.

225 sets of tags. There are six designs in each set (either two or three colors and die cut). Now we're packaging these with bellybands and twine for the client. It's a ton of work, but I feel so accomplished seeing all of this come together!

It's almost Second Storie time!!!

After taking a year off, we're thrilled to be in the thick of planning this year's Second Storie Market! The market is only one day this year, November 24th, and we'll have a bunch of really talented vendors, awesome food trucks (Le Petit Poutine and Hello Arepa) and Joe Bean Coffee. If you're a fan of the event (come on, I know you are), please help us spread the word. You can even invite friends through our Facebook Event page or give us a shout out on Twitter. Can't wait to see you there!

More yoga

Starting this week Jake and I will begin a 40-day yoga challenge. Basically, this means we'll take five yoga classes and a workshop each week. I've been practicing yoga since April (Jake joined me this summer) and although we usually hit 3-5 classes each week, this challenge seems a bit more intense. Aside from making it through the next few weeks, my main goal is to just be healthier. I feel like I've slowly neglected let my eating and exercise habits over the past few years, especially since starting Pistachio Press. I made excuses about not having time but I've come to realized it will always be like this and if I want to make health a priority then I just have to do it. So I am. Wish me luck :)

ps- the main studio we visit is in a beautiful mansion near the studio. Look at those floors!

Ladies of Letterpress Conference 2012

For the past week we were in Asheville, NC for the Ladies of Letterpress Conference. We spent a lot of time talking with other printers, going on local studio tours, and attending (and speaking at) panels about issues in the field of printing. It was an incredible trip! Here are some highlights:

Studio tour at Mink Letterpress (one of the most beautiful studios ever!):

Pool-side studio, Hand-Cranked Letterpress (along with cheese type):

7 Ton Letterpress studio tour (and collective for fur different presses):

Super awesome letterpress dance party! I had a feeling printers could break it down :)

And photo-booth fun during the dance party.
I already miss everyone and we've only been gone two days!

In the studio lately...

We've been printing a bunch of invitations and business cards lately. I know I haven't shown you much, but I promise, it's only because we've been working hard :) And I'm actually able to blog about it now because we're on vacation! I hope to start posting a bit more regularly soon. If you ever want to see more of what we're up to, I do post frequently on Instagram and you can check it out here.
